Another Reason to Reform Child Protection Services

Expert research shows that in addition to the tragic human cost of child abuse there are lasting health effects for victims and substantial very long-term financial costs for the public health system. Outcomes for victims with combined physical and sexual child abuse are the worst; annual healthcare costs are six times higher for combined abuse victims compared to people who were not abused at all. And the probability of alcohol abuse in men is up to 49.8 per cent higher. There are calls now for urgent reforms for child protection services and for the treatment of survivors.
